Richard Barnes is CEO of Select Research, pioneers in measurement of the human body in 3D.
Select developed the sizing standards for clothing retailers using their 3D technology. Since 2004 they have used their technology in healthcare to develop the Body Volume Index (BVI) and measure other metrics digitally, just using a smartphone.
BVI has been recently validated by Mayo Clinic as being a significant improvement on BMI for the prediction of metabolic risk. Richard will explain how machine learning and AI have been used to deliver BVI as a new valid measure of obesity and health risk; a need identified by The Lancet in their report on obesity released in January 2025
